SUPPLEMENT  TO  THE  DECEMBER  PRAYER/NEWSLETTER

Here are some interesting items for which there was no room in the main letter.  I receive regular reports from all 15 of the men, many of them weekly, and often wish I could share more of their content with you.

Concerning the Reformation weekend conference in Romania , Ferenc Kovacs wrote: “By the grace of God we had a very blessed weekend.  We are so thankful to the Lord for representatives from the congregations who came and for His Word, which was preached strongly to their open hearts.  We had 81 from all parts of Transylvania (western Romania ).  The six messages were powerful, and we trust that the Word preached will dwell richly in the hearts of all.  We also heard encouraging reports about the congregations and rejoiced to see growth among our members and hear of their zeal to serve the Lord with all their hearts.  We had times of special prayer, too, asking for God’s grace to grow in sanctification, also in number in order to fully reach self-support.  We had many group discussions, singing, and time for personal discussion as well.”

Concerning the ongoing construction in Vulkan , Romania , Csaba Zolya wrote, “After the conference in Szovata, Ibolya came back with me (he and Ibolya are now engaged).  I didn’t have a lot of time with her, but we had good discussions and read the Bible and prayed together.  She was also very helpful.  Thus our relationship is getting deeper.  She loves doing housework, especially cooking and baking, and waiting on me and the others who were here doing construction.  She also went with me when I visited people.  I appreciated her singing, too.  Last week, when I took her home, I talked with her parents.  Ibolya’s father and brother will electrify the house the first half of December.  Now that I am back in Vulkan, we all miss her.” (Csaba and Ibolya plan to marry in April.)

Construction in Marosvasarhely , Romania is now finished, allowing Sandor Molnar to give his full attention to pastoral work.  Ferenc wrote, “Sandor now wants to visit his members at least once a month.  He is also planning to visit all the people who came to our meetings in the past, become more acquainted with them and their family situations, then continue to visit those who show interest in the gospel.  He also wants to start knocking on doors in his neighborhood, using a set of questions about the religious life of the people to make new contacts.  And now that we have received the calendars with Bible verses from Rev. Ross and his church in Scotland , he wants to use them, too, to reach new people.  He hopes to spend 16 or 17 hours/week in this kind of evangelism.”

Several weeks ago, a good contact of ours in the city north of our school in Miskolc , Hungary made arrangements for Imre Szoke to speak in the high school where she is a teacher.  Kazincbarcika was a communist stronghold in the Soviet era.  After Imre spoke, he wrote: “My time in Barcika at the high school today went very well.  It was above all my expectations.  I had 35 minutes and spoke on: “What one should know about the Bible!”  Though there was not much time for Q/A, the students paid good attention, and most took notes.  I had a huge attendance of 144 young people and three teachers.  Beside this I was able to distribute 40 Bibles among the students.  If all goes well, I will have another opportunity soon to meet another group of students there.”  (Pray for this!)

Imre also wrote, “Our Reformation weekend conference was a real blessing for all who came.  We had 93 people from all parts of Hungary .  We began Friday with a one-day excursion to Slovakia .  On Saturday William Traub (Rev. Traub is Coordinator of Theological Education for MTW in Europe – MTW is the foreign mission board of the PCA) gave us two very good lectures (‘Reformation and the Word of God’ and ‘Reformation and Church Planting’).  Saturday evening I had a lecture entitled ‘The Faith of the Reformers’, after which we had a Bible quiz that was enjoyed by all.  On the Lord’s Day, Gyula preached on ‘Christian Convictions’ and Misi preached on ‘A Life Consecrated to God.’  Our facilities here at the school were pressed to full capacity.”

The Reformation conference in Ukraine went well, with 29 in attendance.  Istvan Gal wrote, “We had lectures on the five ‘solas’ of the Reformation, also on the forerunners of the Reformation, men such as Wycliffe and Huss.”  Earlier he wrote this interesting note, “In October we had three-day evangelistic meetings in Zapszony.  Twenty seven people came.  ____ did everything to stop people from coming.  He even went to the mayor and tried to bribe him to keep us from using the cultural center.  Praise God he was unable to accomplish his evil purpose.”
